What a fantastic season it has been, way back in September 2022 the intertown league started up again after a 2 year break due covid. Head coach Simon had set his sights on winning the league, to put this into perspective Scorpions had never won the league, we generally finished towards the bottom of the table.

The league consists of us and 5 other teams, Romiley, Saracens, Marple, Hyde and Ashton, each team swims against each other at home and away, so 10 galas in total throughout the season per team. These are team galas, with Simon selecting the team, points are scored by winning in the A lane, 2 points for a win and 1 for a loss, the relays its 4 points for a win and 2 points for a loss.

We kicked off in early September facing Romiley at home and finished the season away at Hyde in May. There was some absolutely brilliant swimming across all the galas, some very tight races and nail biting relays and a brilliant team spirit on the poolside. Over the 10 galas we had 64 different swimmers swim for us, achieving a huge total of 324 pbs between them. Which shows the determination in the pool off all our swimmers.

Out of the 5 home galas we won every single won, beating all the teams in the juniors, seniors and overall. Away we only sustained 1 loss for the juniors at Ashton and 2 loses and 1 draw for the seniors at Ashton, Marple and Romiley respectively. Meaning overall we only lost one gala to Ashton who we had beaten at home. What amazing results, well done to all the swimmers and coaches. The results table is below.

We look forward to the celebration gala to finish off the 22/23 intertown season on the 24th of June, This gala is held at grand central where all teams compete at the same time. The event consists of just relay. Because ourselves and Ashton are joint overall champions, we receive a handicap of 1, other teams receive a larger handicap depending on where they finish on the results table, with the team at the bottom getting the biggest handicap. So how it works is the points on the night are multiplied by the handicap to give the final result, meaning that any team could win the celebration gala. So, its all to swim for!

Finally, a huge well done and congratulations to Head coach Simon and the coaching team of Steph, Graham Pete and Pauline who have all worked incredibly hard this year and a massive congratulations to all the 64 swimmers who swam at the various galas. What a result! GO SCORPIONS!!!
