The Peaks and Plains Swimming League is run jointly by Swimming clubs from Cheshire West and Cheshire East. The league consists of 3 team galas and take place at Crewe leisure centre, Scorpions take a team of 16 swimmers selected by our coaches to swim against 7 other clubs, Alsager swimming club, Knutsford Vikings, Nantwich seals, Northwich Centurions, Poynton dippers, Satellites swimming club and this year Crewe Flyers as Sandbach sharks had to withdraw from the competition. These galas are team galas, with our coaches picking a team of 16 swimmers to compete.

The gala consists of 32 individual events, with the 4 different age groups 10 and under, 11 & 12, 13 & 14 and 15 & over swimming all four of the strokes Butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and Freestyle. Then 8 relays, a medley relay, and a freestyle relay for each age group. The way the gala works it has a fasted time limit so if an individual swims faster than the stated time they receive a speeding ticket and don’t score any points for the team. Points are scored from 8 points for 1st place going down to 1 point for 8th place. There is a lot to consider when our coaches pick teams for these galas, it’s not a simple job and they always do a fantastic job picking the team.

The round one took place on the 14th January and saw us score 215 points putting us in second place behind Satellites on 245 points, but with a clear lead over Knutsford Vikings on 185 points. It was a great gala with Simon and Steph guiding the team to a fantastic result. We saw our 11& 12’s, 13& 14’s gets first place in both the medley and the freestyle relays, the 15 & overs getting a second in the medley relay and third in the freestyle relay and our 12 & 13 getting second place in the free style relays. Fantastic results all round, on top of that we got 5 first place finishers and 7 second place finishes and 2 third place finishes. Well done to the team

Round 2 saw Simon and Steph and the team head back to Crewe on the 11th February. Again, a brilliant second place finish scoring 224.5, finishing behind Satellites of Macclesfield with 265 points and again finishing well ahead Knutsford Vikings with 176.5. Our relays teams swam brilliantly yet again with second place finishes in both relays for our 11 & 12 and 13 & 14’s and a third and a second for our 10 and under in the medley and Freestyle relays respectively. Yet again we got amazing results in the individual results with 6 first place finishes, 4 second place and 5 third place finishes. A massive well done yet again to the team.

The third round, Head Coach Simon and the team returned for the final time to Crewe. The swimming as in the previous three rounds was amazing and our closest round yet, Scorpions scored 217 points, with Satellites scoring just 12 points ahead, Knutsford Vikings finished behind us in third place. In this round scorpion got 7 first places finishes, 7 second place finishes and 7 third place finishes, a phenomenal result. Our 10 and under got first place in the medley relay and second in the freestyle, our 11 & 12’s got second in the freestyle relay and the 15 and overs got a third place finish in the medley relay. In this round we got a few speeding tickets, it just shows how our swimmers have progressed during the season. Well done to all our swimmers.

With 3 second place finishes we finished second overall, a brilliant result. Well done to all the swimmers who swam over the 3 galas, at each gala there was a real team spirit on poolside and so lovely to see swimmers cheering each other on. A big thank you to our coaches to Simon and Steph for not only team selection but also their brilliant support and coaching poolside at the galas.
