Despite Storm Ciara putting the UK at a standstill, 25 members of Wilmslow and District Amateur Swimming Club, known as the Wilmslow Scorpions, took part in Round 1 of the Sputniks Gala, at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on Sunday 9th February 2020.

The Satellites Sputniks galas are a fantastic and friendly way to introduce novice swimmers to their first competition experience.

Sputniks comprise 4 meets each year at Macclesfield Leisure Centre and are targeted at 8-11 year old novice swimmers. The galas have fun relay events as well as individual events. The programme spans 2 galas.  Rounds 1 and 2 are gala 1, and we repeat the same programme for rounds 3 and 4, which is gala 2. Points are awarded for both the position in which a swimmer finishes and for improvements in their times throughout the 4 galas.

Spectating is FREE so all the family can come to watch!

We encourage all novice swimmers to enter these galas as they can monitor their improvement over 4 months, get use to the gala environment, but most importantly have fun with their friends.  Round 2 is now open.  You can enter it here: Sputniks Round 2
