About the Tadpole Gala
The Tadpole Gala 2019 will take place over 2 days, Saturday 28th September and Saturday 5th October at Grand Central Leisure, Stockport. Put the dates in your diary, and cancel all other plans!
Each year the Stockport Association of Swimming Clubs hosts two galas known as ‘Dave Brewood Memorial “Tadpoles”’. These are ‘graded’ (those that are too fast can’t enter) and so are a really great opportunity for B and C grade club swimmers to take part in galas knowing they won’t be competing against elite swimmers. Awards are made to the six fastest swimmers in each race.
The Tadpoles gala gives more of our members the opportunity to take part in, and experience the excitement of a gala, get swimming times, and have a greater opportunity to win an award. Swimmers tend to swim faster in galas, so it also gives our swimmers the opportunity to also achieve a personal best (PB).
The final race is the Cannonball relay, where each club competes in an 8 man relay, with a swimmer participating from each age group. This is an exciting finale.
Wilmslow Scorpions will be competing against swimming clubs from Hazel Grove, Hyde, Marple, Poynton, Romiley and Stockport.
ast year we had 43 members take part. We won 47 medals across B and C grades, 4 swimmers achieved Individual trophies for best performing boy / girl in various age groups, and we also came second both in the best overall trophy and in the best overall girl trophy.
This year it would be great if we can take 75 members or more to the gala. The gala is open to all our swimmers who are 9 years or older on the 5th October.
Entry fee for the gala is £3 per event. Invites have been sent out and we will invoice you for your entry fees. Closing date for entries is Monday 19th August 2019.

Round 2 took place on Saturday 22nd April, 28 swimmers attended the gala with our coaches Pete and Graham. Yet again we saw some fantastic swimming, everyone competing did scorpions proud. Saturday 18 March 2023 saw a team of 43 swimmers and our coaches Pete and Graham travel to Macclesfield Leisure Centre to compete in round 1 of Sputniks.
