Wilmslow Scorpions head to the 2020 Cheshire County Championships
17 Jan 2020
2 years after losing our learn to swim offering, a third of our membership, making financial losses and almost closing our doors, we turned it around and have become a county level competitive swimming club.
Throughout 2019, we opened up more opportunities for our swimmers to enter numerous galas, giving them opportunities to gain official licensed times and see their ranking on the Swim England Website. At the end of 2019, 21% of our swimmers had either got a county time in one or more strokes or were with in 10% or achieving a county time. What an amazing achievement!

This month, the club is proud to announce that 16 members of Wilmslow Scorpions Swimming Club will be heading to the Cheshire County Championships, putting Wilmslow back on the map in terms of county level swimming. This is the second time since 2009 that Wilmslow Scorpions have returned to the Cheshire County Championships.
Last year saw 3 swimmers achieve qualifying times and go on to the Cheshire County Championships, but this year that number has increased to 8. The 2020 Cheshire County squad will be joined on the final day by 8 more swimmers in the relays and the cannonball races. These 8 swimmers either have a county qualifying time or are within 10% of that time.

The event takes place over four weekends in January and February. Swimmers, parents and coaches will be getting up at the crack of dawn to attend the 2020 Cheshire County Championships held at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

The club would like to thank all the parents and volunteers who dedicate so much of their free time supporting the talented swimmers. We would also like to thank the coaches too. A special thanks goes to Hilary Centeleghe for reopening this possibility for the club.
Swimming is a great inclusive sport, which helps individuals grow and improve themselves mentally and physically. At Wilmslow Scorpions Swimming Club, we actively encourage our swimmers to be the best that they can be, in both swimming and in life.
